Phnom Penh Crown and Visakha presided over a 7-goal thriller in the Metfone C-League highlight on Sunday evening, with Visakha emerging victorious thanks to goals from Eliel da Cruz Guardiano, Sin Kakada, and an Ajayi Opeyemi Korede brace at Visakha Stadium.

The result sees Visakha, with interim coach still in place, stay steady at fourth in the league standings now three ahead of Boeung Ket in fifth. Crown’s sixth defeat of the season leaves them comfortably mid-table in sixth, although, Coach Sum Vanna’s men will be kicking themselves for not capitalizing on their chances.

The Crown coach, speaking to the club’s website said that while preparation was good, the young squad were perhaps unprepared for a tough away day at Visakha.

“We were aware of how tough it would be to face big team the like of Visakha. We had prepared well related to the players’ spirit, tactic, and recovery. We worked really hard during the whole week, he told ppcfc.com.

“We played an away game, so our players still had some issues with their spirit and emotion. I didn’t put the blame or pressure on our players, but I asked them to play based on what we had planned. We have a lot of young players, so they couldn’t deal well with the atmosphere as they don’t have much experience with that. They were sometimes lack of concentration, he added.”

On Saturday, Chan Vathanaka netted a first half strike against Angkor Tiger to help Boeung Ket to a point in a 1-1 draw. Sopheak of Tiger put the brakes on BK and secured a point for each side as he levelled late in the second period.

Vathanaka said he was disappointed to have dropped points. “I am delighted to score for the team but now I want to win more, said Vathanaka. “At this stage, dropping points is not an option.”

Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng stay atop the standings after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Kirivong Sok Sen Chey at the Svay Rieng Stadium.

Still unbeaten in the league, the provincial side, with 42 points, are five points clear of defending champs NagaWorld who ended their weekend with a 3-1 win over National Police Commissary.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Ministry of National Defense were made to work hard against an uncharacteristically resilient Kompong Cham for their 4-2 victory.
