Banteay Meanchey provincial police on Monday arrested two women over the possession of nearly 1.5 kilograms of crystal meth in Serei Sophoan city.

Lieutenant Colonel Ngeng Sochea, chief of the provincial anti-drug department, identified two suspects as Seab Yama, 20, and Leang Ousaphea, 25.

Lt Col Sochea said the suspects often sold drugs to users in the province’s casinos. He noted that they were arrested at 11.20 am on Monday after provincial anti-drug police, in collaboration with Serei Sophoan city police, raided their house in Kampong Svay commune.

He said that before their arrests, provincial anti-drug police investigated the pair for about one month.

“They were drug traffickers who sold drugs to users in casinos,” he said. “They were arrested red-handed when police raided their house.”

He added that after the raid and their arrests, police seized 19 packages of crystal meth weighting 1,410 grams, 12 tablets of ecstasy, as well as other drug materials from them.

Major General Ath Khem, chief of Banteay Meanchey provincial police, said the pair is being temporarily detained at the provincial anti-drug department for questioning.

He added that they are accused of drug possession and trafficking and will be sent to Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court today.
