Kampong Thom provincial police have arrested 10 people suspected of drug use and trafficking.

During a press conference on Saturday, provincial police chief Major General Ouk Kosal said the arrests were made in different locations on Wednesday and Thursday after officers successfully hunted down the suspects who were all involved in the same case.

He said police arrested four suspects on Wednesday, noting that Ven Vanmonineath, 20, and Linh Kimseng, 30, were arrested in Kampong Thom province’s Kampong Svay district, while San Soknoeun, 18, and Uch Dina, 17, were arrested in Stung Sen city.

On Thursday, officers located the remaining six in Sra Yov commune in the province’s Stung Sen city.

“Our police officers confiscated 12 small packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing a total of 45.2 grams, one drug scale, four phones, and other related drug tools,” Maj Gen Kosal said. “We are now preparing the documents to send them to the provincial court.”

According to Maj Gen Kosal, drug cases in the first six months of 2019 have decreased when compared to the same period last year.

“Drug cases have decreased if we compare the numbers between the first six months of 2019 and last year,” Maj Gen Kosal noted, but he did not remember the exact figures.

He added that officers continue to cooperate with all levels of authorities to disseminate the impact of drugs to the people across the province, including in factories, schools, KTV outlets, clubs and tourism spots.

“If parents or guardians suspect that their children are using drugs, please send them to have their urine tested for drug use so that they can be sent to a rehabilitation centre if proven to be using drugs,” Maj Gen Kosal said. “Everyone please cooperate with authorities in the prevention and crack down on drugs use.”
