The CPP today sacked Facebook personality Pheng Vannak from his position as a member of a party working group in Prey Veng province following his release from prison last month after serving a suspended one-year sentence.
A letter signed by party vice-president and Interior Minister Sar Kheng today said that the CPP had decided to dismiss Mr Vannak who was part of the working group working in Mesang district’s Prey Khnes commune.
The letter notified those who had been working with Mr Vannak to stop doing so with immediate effect.
Phnom Penh Municipal Court last month sentenced Mr Vannak to one year in prison for public defamation and incitement to commit crime, but the judge suspended the majority of the sentence.
He left prison on June 17 after spending two months and 15 days behind bars.
In a Facebook post, Mr Vannak had compared payment made to a hit-and-run victim to the murder of slain political analyst Kem Ley. He suggested that Prime Minister Hun Sen gave $50,000 to Fresh News CEO Lim Chea Vutha to give to Mr Ley’s family.
