The Ministry of Interior’s Anti-drug Police Department on Monday arrested a man and seized more than two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy, and dried marijuana from him in Daun Penh district.
Major Chuon Sokhom, a department police official, yesterday identified the suspect as Run Dara, or also known as Chheav, a 35-year old vehicle broker and the owner of a car shop in Daun Penh district’s Srah Chak commune.
Maj Sokhom said the suspect was arrested at about 7.30pm on Monday after police raided his shop in Srah Chak commune.
He noted that the suspect was a gang man who had brought drugs from Stung Treng province, which sits near the Lao border, to stock at his shop in Phnom Penh while distributing them to users in the city.
Maj Sokhom said police identified the suspect after an undercover police officer contacted him for drugs, which eventually led to his arrest.
“He was arrested red-handed after police raided his shop on Monday evening,” Maj Sokhom said. “Police seized more than two kilograms of crystal meth, ecstasy and dried marijuana, as well as other related substances from him.”
He said the suspect is accused of drug possession and trafficking and faces up to life sentence if convicted.
Mr Dara will be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court for questioning today.
Lieutenant General Loeuk Vannak, chief of the Anti-drug Police Department at the Interior Ministry, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
