Siem Reap Provincial Court yesterday charged and jailed six Chinese nationals for distributing pornography of Chinese women and advertising condoms online.

Brigadier General Chea Kimsan, chief of the provincial immigration police department, identified the six men as Wu Song, 29, Li Chao, 24, Li Hang, 26, Li Shao Jie, 26, Gong Lei, 33, and Li Long Jie, 25.

Brig Gen Kimsan said that they were yesterday charged with distributing pornography following their arrests on Thursday at their rental villa in Svay Dangkum commune in Siem Reap city. They are currently in pre-trial detention and face between one month and one year each in jail if convicted, he added.

Brig Gen Kimsan noted that any sale or distribution of pornography or sex products are strictly prohibited and violate the laws in Cambodia.

Captain Nuon Sok, a penal police officer working with Siem Reap city police, yesterday said that the accused were IT experts who came to Cambodia as tourists last year.

He noted that between May and June this year, they publicly posted pornography of Chinese women and advertised condoms online in order to attract people to buy their sex products in Siem Reap city.

Cap Sok said that after police were alerted, police began investigating and seeking for their hiding place, which was eventually discovered on Thursday.

“They had posted pornography of women and men online in order to attract and persuade Facebook readers and other people to buy their sex products, including the condoms,” Cap Sok said. “Their activities have affected the reputation of Cambodia, the honour of women as a whole and also violate our Cambodia laws.”

“They were arrested red-handed after police raided their rental villa in Siem Reap city on Thursday,” he added.

Cap Sok said that they were arrested at about 4.30pm on Thursday, when police seized a total of five laptops, which stocked hundreds of thousands of nude photos of women and men, especially Chinese women along with the condoms, as well as 30 phones, six passports and other related materials.
