Prime Minister Hun Sen said that he fired Nhim Vanda, first vice president of National Committee for Disaster Management due to his lack of accountability and failure to show up at the building collapse site in Sihanoukville.
Speaking to reporters at the building collapse site in Sihanoukville on Monday night, Mr Hun Sen said that he sacked Mr Vanda because he failed to send him a report about the building collapse while he was attending Asean summit in Bangkok.
“I did not receive a report from him when I was in Bangkok. About 10 pm [in Bangkok] I sent him a text message via WhatsApp: where are you [Mr Vanda]? [he did not reply],” Mr Hun Sen said, noting Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Yun Min told him that Mr Vanda was not at the scene.
“I will no longer keep any officials who tell a lie. I have just removed him from the government and appointed him as advisor to the Royal government. If he is not satisfied, I will remove him from the post of an advisoras well ,” he said, adding that Mr Vanda was in Kampong Speu province while rescue workers were scouring for victims.
“Even there are a few people [in the accident], we need to have people responsible to go to the site to solve it,” Mr Hun Sen said.
Kampong Cham provincial governor Kuoch Chamroeun will replace Mr Min who resigned yesterday. Preah Vihear provincial governor Un Chanda will become the governor of Kampong Cham province and Svay Rieng provincial deputy governor Prak Sovann will be promoted to be governor of Preah Vihear.
