Chet Borey district police in Kratie province on Sunday arrested one of two boys suspected of raping a 17-year-old girl.
Major Chheang Sang, deputy chief of Chetr Borey district police, identified the arrested suspect as Monh Ne, a 16-year-old farmer living in Dar commune. He added that another suspect, 17-year-old Kong Vuth, who is a friend of Mr Ne and lives in the same commune, is still at large.
Maj Sang added that the victim was a 17-year-old farmer living in the same commune as the two suspects. She was also Mr Ne’s girlfriend, he added.
Maj Sang said that at about 7.30pm on Friday, the two suspects invited the victim to have dessert in Dar commune. They travelled on one motorbike together, with Mr Vuth driving.
Maj Sang said that after eating, the suspects said they would take the victim home. The three rode on the motorbike again, with the victim sitting in the middle between the two suspects.
Maj Sang said that instead of taking her home, they took her to a quiet place by the forest. After they stopped driving and parked the motorbike by the road, they held her down and raped her, he added.
“According to the victim, Mr Ne was the first to rape her,” Maj Sang said. “After Mr Ne raped her, Mr Vuth also took turn to rape her.”
“After the rape, they took her home and fled,” he added.
Maj Sang noted that after arriving home, the victim told her parents of the rape. Her parents became angry and her father decided to file a complaint against them to the police the next morning.
Maj Sang added that Mr Ne was arrested by district police in his home in Dar commune at about 11am on Sunday, while Mr Vuth is still at large and police are still seeking his arrest.
Brigadier General Sum Khim, deputy chief of Kratie provincial police, said the two suspects are accused of rape with aggravating circumstances. He also noted that the suspects are underage and face between three to five years in jail each if convicted.
