Daun Penh district police yesterday arrested a singer and seized more than 20 packages of crystal methamphetamines from him.
Captain Veng Huoth, a police officer working with Daun Penh district police, identified the suspect as Hean Samrethratanak, also known as Ty, a 21-year-old singer from Kandal province’s Takhmao city.
Cap Huoth yesterday said that Mr Samrethratanak was arrested by district police at about 2.30pm on Sunday in a slum area near the railways located in village III in Srah Chak commune in the capital.
“He was not afraid of the police,” Cap Huoth said. “He stood on the railway and sold drugs publicly to users in the afternoon.”
“He was arrested by our police forces red-handed while he was selling the drugs,” he added.
Cap Huoth said that police seized a total of 23 packages of various sizes containing crystal meth, as well as one scale, one phone, one motorbike and other related materials from him.
He noted that after the arrest, police also conducted a urine test, which came back positive for drug use.
Cap Huoth said that Mr Samrethratanak was suspected of distributing drugs at night clubs, karaoke shops and in slum areas in Phnom Penh and Takhmao city in Kandal province.
He added that Mr Samrethratanak is accused of drug use and trafficking, noting that he is currently detained at Daun Penh district police for questioning and further investigation.
Colonel Teang Chansar, Daun Penh district police chief, declined to comment on the suspect’s arrest.
