Police in Svay Rieng province’s Kampong Ro district on Wednesday arrested two men who stole a cow and slaughtered it for meat in Samlei commune.
Major Mom Sarorng, district deputy police chief yesterday identified them as Nhim Chantha, 39 and his son-in-law Oeun Chhoeuka, 25, both living in Samlei Khang Tboung village.
He said the two men were arrested by commune police on Wednesday night while they were carving up the cow at a quiet spot 500 metres away from the village.
“Our police officers on patrol arrested the two men while they were cutting up a cow for its meat,” Maj Sarorng said. “The officers became suspicious because they were cutting up the animal at a quiet spot away from the village instead of at their own homes.”
He noted that during interrogation the two men confessed that they stole the cow from a villager in order to get meat.
“We will send them to the provincial police for further questioning,” Maj Sarorng said.
Brigadier General Koeng Khorn, provincial police chief could not be reached for comment yesterday.
