Lieutenant General Hun Manith, Defence Ministry Military Intelligence Department director, today dismissed as fake news, an allegation that he deposited $100 million in a bank in America.

Tor Nimol, a Facebook user, on Tuesday posted on his page that Prime Minister Hun Sen’s son has $100,000,000 in TD Bank.

He also posted a picture of a bank statement which showed Lt Gen Manith’s name and an account deposit summary showing a balance of $100,000,000

On his Facebook page today, Lt Gen Manith denied the allegation and described the post as fake news designed to damage his reputation.

“Recently I saw fake news related to a bank in the United States that used my name and my sister’s name saying that each has $100 million. It is fake news created by an opposition group to damage my name, and provoke suspicion among the public,” he wrote in his post.

Lt Gen Manith noted that he is considering legal against the person named Tor Nimol on Facebook, a former opposition party member and a representative of an organisation called Khnhum Khmer.
