Phnom Penh Municipal Court today sentenced a a couple to seven years in prison after they were found guilty of rape and sexual abuse.
Presiding Judge Koy Sao said 36-year-old Chan Chhean and his wife 31-year-old Chhea Noun assaulted the victim, a 29-year-old garment worker from Por Senchye district’s Kabab I commune.
Judge Sao noted that Mr Chhean was charged with rape, while Ms Noun was charged with being an accomplice of rape and sexual assault.
He noted that the couple were arrested on August 31 after the victim filed a complaint with police.
“The court decides to convict and sentence them to seven years imprisonment,” Judge Sao said. “If both do not agree, they have the right to file an appeal within one month.”
Judge Sao noted that that at about 2pm on August 26 last year, the victim sought consultation from Mr Chhean, who claimed to be a sorcerer that could help the victim prevent her 32-year-old estranged husband from falling in love with other women.
