Prime Minister Hun Sen and Minister of Interior Sar Kheng will file a lawsuit against former opposition leader Sam Rainsy over allegation that they were behind the murder of ex-police chief and plot to topple the government.
Government spokesman, Phay Siphan said on Friday that at the cabinet session the two leaders have raised the matter of filing another court case and that they were preparing the documents to file the lawsuit in the French court against the self-imposed in exile Sam Rainsy, who accused Hun Sen of killing former police chief Hok Lundy and publicly accusing Sar Kheng of having plans to topple the current government.
“It is two separate cases from Samdech Hun Sen and Samdech Sar Kheng against Sam Rainsy,” Mr. Siphan said. “They plan to file the lawsuit individually.”
Mr Rainsy has lived in exile since 2015 after being hit with slew of court cases by Prime Minister Hun Sen and National Assembly president Heng Samrin. He has recently got two more charges for incitement military personnel to disobey commander and insulting the King.
