Cambodia to host ICAPP’s Asia Pacific Summit this year

Cambodia is expected to host ICAPP’s Asia Pacific Summit in November, according to Prime Minister Hun Sen’s assistant.

In December, Nepal and the Universal Peace Federation hosted the Asia Pacific Summit in Kathmandu.

It was attended by world leaders such as Mr Hun Sen, Myanmar State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi and Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The theme for last year’s summit was “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values”.

Eang Sophalleth, Prime Minister Hun Sen’s personal assistant, said Asia Pacific Summit 2019 was announced during a meeting between Mr Hun Sen and Jose de Venecia Jr, co-chairman of the ICAPP’s standing committee, at the Peace Palace today.

He noted that the summit is to be held in Phnom Penh from November 19 to 20.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony in the capital before the meeting with Mr de Venecia, Mr Hun Sen said he will travel to Manila prior to the summit.

“I will go to Manila in order to discuss the Asia Pacific Summit,” he said, noting that after the summit, he is expected to go to South Korea to mark the anniversary of the ICAPP. “I will go to South Korea to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the ICAPP.”

The International Conference of Asian Political Parties was launched in Manila in 2000 to promote exchanges and cooperation between political parties in Asia.

The CPP and Funcinpec party became ICAPP members in 2010.

As of May last year, more than 352 political parties from 52 countries in the region were eligible to participate in ICAPP activities.
