The Ministry of Social Affairs has sent officials to six provinces to inform poor and disabled villagers of their right to access government aid once they have proper identity cards, which the officials will help them obtain.

Nhek Vanara, a secretary of state with the ministry, said the officials began disseminating information about the aid to villagers in Battambang province on Monday.

The ministry officials will also be visiting villagers in Kampot, Takeo, Kampong Chhnang, Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey province this year, he said.

He noted that since 2016, the ministry has prepared identity cards for 11,628 poor or disabled villagers in 10 provinces. The cards allow the villagers to access free healthcare and also receive a stipend, calculated based on their income, each month.

“Those identity cards for poor or disabled villagers will provide advantages to them because they will receive government support to promote their livelihoods,” Mr Vanara said.
