Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court yesterday charged three people for the alleged murder of a 45-year-old Chinese national in O’Chhoeuteal beach.

Major Bun Samnang, a military officer with Preah Sihanouk provincial police, identified the three accused as 21-year-old Liu Sheng and 32-year-old Xu Jun Jun, who are both Chinese nationals working as bread vendors in the province, as well as 20-year-old Ou Bros, who is a Chinese language interpreter and a taxi driver.

Maj Samnang said that Mr Sheng and Ms Jun Jun are accused of intentional murder while Mr Bros is accused with accomplice to intentional murder. They are facing between 10 to 15 years in jail each if convicted.

Maj Samnang noted that the three were arrested on Sunday in Kampot province, where they hid after the murder.

He said that they were arrested after killing a Chinese man named Zhang Feng, 45, who was a construction worker, in a murder that occurred on Saturday in Preah Sihanouk province.

Maj Samnang said that at about 3am on Saturday, Mr Sheng and Ms Jun Jun got into an argument with the victim at their bread shop in Sihanoukville. He added that during the argument, they beat up Mr Feng until he died.

“After killing the victim, they asked Mr Bros to help to move the victim’s body and throw it away at a quiet construction site near O’Chhoeuteal beach in commune Buon,” Maj Samnang said. “After killing the victim, they fled to hide in Kampot province.”

Maj Samnang added that Preah Sihanouk provincial military police collaborated with Kampot provincial military police to arrest them at about 7pm on Sunday in Kampong Bay district.

Military police seized a Highlander car, two passports and three phones from them.

After their arrests, they were soon transferred from Kampot province to Preah Sihanouk province for questioning by the provincial military police.

They are currently in pre-trial detention.
