The sub-national council election is being held  Sunday at 228 polling stations across the country in a smooth and good atmosphere.

Seven political parties are  participating in the municipal, provincial and district election including the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Khmer National United Party (KNUP), Funcinpec, Cambodian Nationality Party (CNP), Khmer Youth Party (CYP), Khmer Will Party (KWP), and Khmer Republican Party (KRP), according to the National Election Committee.

Si Toun, Phsar Thmey I commune chief, on Sunday said that the sub-national election was progressing smoothly.

“The Municipal, provincial and district council election is going smoothly this morning,” Ms Toun said, adding that 89 commune councillors in her commune came to vote.

She noted that commune councilors came early to line up at the polling station and were very happy to cast their ballots.

Ms Toun said that the CPP will win a landslide sub-national election.

“Yes, [CPP] will be getting landslide victory,” Ms Toun forecasted.

There are 559 seats up for grabs in Phnom Penh and the 24 provinces, while there are 3,555 seats up for grabs in all districts and cities across the Kingdom. 11,572 commune councillors are eligible to vote.
