The Health Ministry on Saturday issued a list of seven diseases that the public should be wary of during the rainy season which began last week.

Ly Sovann, its Communicable Disease Control Department director, in a statement on Saturday named them as mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria; water-borne diseases including cholera; influenza; fever; dysentery; and also leptospirosis which is spread from the urine of infected mice mostly during floods.

He advised the public to practice good hygiene, destroy mosquito breeding grounds, eat healthy food, especially those rich in Vitamin C, and always bathe after getting soaked in rain.

Mr Sovann also urged people to drink at least two litres of water daily and also consume hot water, soup or milk whenever they could.

“The rainy season is coming, please protect your health well,” he said.
