After taking a shock decision to part with Brazilian coach Leonardo Vitorino last week, Phnom Penh Crown reacted immediately under the stewardship of interim coach Sum Vanna by registering a comfortable 3-0 home win against National Police Commissary.
Playing the late Metfone C-League fixture on Sunday evening, Crown went two goals up by half-time after goals from Yeu Muslim and a converted penalty kick from Paulo Victor.
Substitute Mao Piseth notched a third in second half stoppage time, but coach Vanna will know his side could have coasted to a win by a larger scoreline.
After suffering recent painful losses to Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng and NagaWorld, the win will serve to bolster confidence for the beleaguered giants’ fans. The win pushes Crown up to 7th in the league standings while Police drop to 12th.
Crown next travel to Siem Reap for an away fixture against league stragglers Soltilo Angkor.
Also on Sunday, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng continued their assault on the rest of the league, and preserving their unbeaten streak, with a 13-0 humiliation of Kampong Cham.
7-goal hero Privat Mbarga stole the show as five other PKR players chipped in with goals to hand the club a handsome win.
In Sunday’s other games, Angkor Tiger registered a 6-1 win over Asia Euro United.
With NagaWorld winning on Saturday, PKR remain on top of the league, a point separating them from the defending champions.
