The Metfone C-League enters its seventh match weekend tomorrow with six-time league champions Phnom Penh Crown appointing Sum Vanna as replacement for departing Brazilian Leonardo Vitorino.
“Phnom Penh Crown are pleased to announce Sum Vanna as our caretaker manager to replace Leonardo Vitorino, who parted company with the club today, reads the press statement. “Sum Vanna, who joined Phnom Penh Crown in November in 2018 as the assistant head coach, has just finished his AFC A License coaching course.”
Vanna, 38, began his coaching career with Build Bright United in 2013 before short-lived stints at CMAC United and Western Phnom Penh.
His first task will be to steady the Crown ship in his debut as coach against National Police on Sunday evening. Crown sit in tenth with a record of only two wins from six league matches.
Also playing on Sunday are league leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng who will meet Kampong Cham. PKR, coached by Irishman Conor Nestor, have a one-point cushion at the top after stumbling for the first time this season in last weekend’s draw with Angkor Tiger.
In Siem Reap, Angkor Tiger play host to Asia Euro United while Soltilo Angkor make the trip to face Kirivong Sok Sen Chey.
In tomorrow’s highlight, third-placed Visakha will seek to push ahead of fourth-placed Boeung Ket in their evening matchup. Visakha registered a massive 14-0 win in their last outing while Boeung Ket trumped Bati Academy U18s.
In Saturday’s other fixtures, stuttering Ministry of National Defense will attempt to negotiate past Bati Youth, while defending champions face Electricite du Cambodge in the weekend’s early tie.
