Preah Vihear Provincial Court yesterday charged two men over the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Chey Sen district.
Colonel Team Sangkream, chief of Chey Sen district police, identified the accused as Then Phalla and Thuon Sochea, both 21-year-old farmers from Khyorng commune in Preah Vihear province’s Chey Sen district.
Col Sangkream said the victim was a 16-year-old farmer from the same commune.
Col Sangkream said both of the accused were charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and face seven to 15 years in jail if convicted. They are currently in pre-trial detention.
Col Sangkream said that at about 7pm on Sunday, Mr Phalla and Mr Sochea attended a friend’s wedding in Khyorng commune. At the party, the two accused men got the victim drunk, he added.
Col Sangkream said that at about 10pm, the men left the party and took the victim with them with the intention of bringing her home. The three of them rode on one motorbike, with Mr Phalla driving.
“As they drove away from the party, they instead brought her to a quiet and dark place in the commune,” Col Sangkream said. “They took turns raping her starting with Mr Phalla.”
“Afterwards, they dropped her off at her house and fled,” he added.
Col Sangkream said the victim reported the rape to her parents. The next morning, the victim’s father lodged a complaint against Mr Phalla and Mr Sochea to the district police.
He added that the two accused were later arrested in their homes at about 10am on Monday.
