NagaWorld just won the “Best Country Award for Overall Corporate Social Respo-nsibility (CSR) Excellence – Best in Cambodia” for the second time. The award was presented at the 11th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards 2019, in Sarawak, Malaysia. The CSR award presentation is one of Asia’s most prestigious.
The Global CSR Summit & Awards give recognition to companies with exemplary CSR programmes that demonstrate an on-going commitment towards incorporating ethical values, corporate governance and respect for individuals, communities and the environment.
They have become the gold standard for the CSR community. Of the hundreds of entries in various categories, only a few companies in the region received the 2019 awards.
The awards are organized by Pinnacle Group Inter-national and were presented by YB Dato’ Sri Hajjah Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak State’s Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Child-hood Development.
NagaWorld’s award acknowledges its commitment to having CSR practices embedded at the company’s core strategy, whilst making major improvements towards sustainable economic development and the nation building of Cambodia at the same time.
NagaWorld Managing Director Mr. Pern Chen said, “We are truly honoured to receive this prestigious accolade, which marks another milestone for NagaWorld’s corporate social responsibility achievements. Since NagaWorld’s establishment in 1995, we have incorporated CSR as a part of our sustainable business strategy that involves caring for the community, employees, shareholders and Cambodia as a whole.”
“We are equally pleased to attribute this coveted achievement to our employees, who have actively volunteered their time through ‘NagaWorld Kind Hearts’ which was formed in 2014 to support company-wide CSR initiatives. At present, about 200,000 Cambodians have benefitted from our CSR initiatives focusing on 4 key pillars: Education Enhan-cement, Environmental Care, Community Engagement and Sports Development.”
In 2018, NagaWorld Kind Hearts conducted 23 campaigns of Education Enhancement, helping 14,209 students from more than 40 schools across Cambodia. NagaWorld Kind Hearts volunteers planted 1,000 trees for environmental protection and actively promoted a cleaner and greener Cambodia. Community Engagement initiatives reach out to 17,940 citizens in underprivileged communities, and a Sports Development programme trained 120 sports teachers in professional coaching techniques by the NagaWorld Football Club following a module developed by the Football Federation of Cambodia, benefitting more than 18,500 students.
Under Environmental Care, NagaWorld conserved 610 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity during Earth Hour, cleaned up the city by having NagaWorld Kind Hearts volunteers collect 418 kilograms of trash off the streets, helped recycle 443 kilograms of used soap, and promoted environmental awareness through a 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) campaign.
