Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged a man who allegedly raped three of his sisters while drunk between January and April 17 in Meanchey district.
Cap Seng Theng, a district penal police officer, identified the accused as Khan Metry, 23, a construction worker, living in Stung Meanchey II commune.
He said that the accused was charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and faces between seven and 15 years in jail if convicted. He was arrested on Friday and is now in prison pending trial.
Cap Theng said that according to police investigations and the victims’ complaints, Mr Metry, between January and March, raped his two younger sisters aged 19 and 22, several times whenever he was drunk and alone with them in their house.
He noted that after each rape, the accused always threatened to kill them if they informed their mother, elder sister or anyone else.
“According to police investigations, he caught his two younger sisters and raped them multiple times whenever they were alone in the house,” Cap Theng said. “Each time he warned them not to tell anyone or he would kill them.”
Cap Theng noted that because the victims were scared of him and ashamed over the rapes, they kept quiet.
Cap Theng noted that on April 17, Mr Metry also caught and raped his 26-year-old elder sister when he was drunk and they were both alone in the house.
He said that after the rape, the accused went into hiding and the elder sister filed a complaint with the commune police.
Cap Theng said Mr Metry did not know that his sister had filed the complaint and returned to his house on Friday.
He said his elder sister alerted police and the accused was arrested at about 6 pm on Friday at his house.
Cap Theng noted that after the arrest, the two younger sisters also complained to police that their brother had raped them several times.
