Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday convicted two Vietnamese nationals and sentenced them to three years each in prison for drug use and trafficking committed last year in Russey Keo district.
Judge Ros Piseth identified the two as Chang Yang Tung, 26, and Haing Yaing Ling, 20.
“The court sentenced them to three years each in prison and a fine of four million riels [about $1,000] each to put in the state’s budget,” Judge Piseth said.
Judge Piseth said the two men sold drugs to users in a slum area in Svay Pak commune. He noted that they were arrested at about 9pm on August 25 last year after municipal anti-drug police raided their rental house in the commune.
He said that after their arrests, police confiscated two packages of crystal meth weighing 3.58 grams, one drug scale, two phones and drug paraphernalia.
He added that after their arrests, police tested their urine, which came back positive for drug use.
During their trial on April 2, they denied that they were drug traffickers, but confessed they were drug users.
They told the court that the drugs that police seized from them had been bought from an unidentified Cambodian man in Russey district for their own use only. They did not sell or distribute it to other people, they claimed.
