Prime Minister Hun Sen on April 2 signed two sub decrees to appoint governors in Phnom Penh’s Chamkar Mon district and the two new districts of Boeng Keng Kang and Kampol.

The sub decrees, copies of which were obtained yesterday, said Mr Hun Sen decided to appoint Chbar Ampov Deputy District Governor Theng Sothol as Chamkar Mon district governor to replace Prum Samkhann, who has been transferred to work at City Hall.

He also appointed Chamkar Mon Deputy Governor Thim Sam An as Boeng Keng Kang Governor and Por Senchey Deputy District Governor Khim Sunsoda as Kampol’s governor.

The sub decrees stated that the appointments were to take immediate effect.

Met Measpeakdey, City Hall spokesman, yesterday said that the appointments or transfers of district governors was a normal procedure in the civil service.

“We also need to appoint some officials to fill positions in the administrations of the newly created districts,” he said.

Mr Measpheakdey added that all three district governors will be installed this afternoon during a ceremony presided over by Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng at City Hall.

All three new governors could not be reached for comment yesterday.

In January, Mr Hun Sen issued two sub decrees reclassifying two communes in Phnom Penh as districts, as per a request made by Interior Minister Sar Kheng.
