The National Election Committee (NEC) has given its approval to political parties that are registered for the sub-national elections to campaign from May 17- 24.  Cambodia’s third provincial, municipal, and district council elections are on May 26.

The NEC’s statement issued today (April 19) proclaims that seven parties are scheduled to conduct their voter-attracting activities from 6am until 22pm during the eight-day campaign period.

Each political party is allowed to hold a march or rally on public roads twice during the campaign period.  The use of loudspeakers and/or holding marches/rallies near hospitals or near schools while classes are being held is forbidden.  Electoral activities must cease for two hours during lunchtime, and must end altogether 24 hours before Election Day.

There are 559 posts are to be filled in Phnom Penh and the other 24 provinces, and 3,555 in the districts and cities across the Kingdom.

Across the Kingdom 228 polling stations will be open to the 11,572 commune and sangkat councillors eligible to vote in the upcoming sub-national elections.
