The former Phnom Penh governor and CPP lawmaker, Pa Socheatvong, was appointed as advisor to the Prime Minister barely a month after resigning from the National Assembly.
According to the royal decree signed by King Norodom Sihamoni on April 13, Mr Socheatvong was appointed as “personal advisor” to the Prime Minister with immediate effect.
This position is at the same hierarchical level as a minister.
Mr Socheatvong bowed out of his CPP parliamentarian position in March to run for the chairmanship of the Phnom Penh Municipal Council.
The National Election Committee reports that his name was at the top of the candidate list for the Phnom Penh constituency in the municipal election, which will take place on May 26.
Mr Socheatvong was Governor of Phnom Penh from 2013 to 2017, the became a senior adviser to the national government in 2017.
