Khmer New Year
Cambodia’s biggest and most important annual festivity – Khmer New Year – is celebrated for three days every April.
Every new year, Khmers go to their hometowns and mark the special holiday with their families and relatives. They also go to pagodas to offer food to the monks and pray for good fortune as they usher in the new year.
What makes Khmer New Year livelier and more cheerful are the traditional games and songs being played in local villages. Everyone can join; everyone is encouraged to have fun.
This year, Khmer New Year falls on April 14 to 16. Khmers will be welcoming the Year of the Pig.
