The Metfone C-League resumes for matchweek 3 with old rivalries and some new ones coming to the fore.
On Sunday, Phnom Penh Crown meet challengers Visakha at Smart RSN Stadium in what is sure to be a testy encounter.
Ahead of the 2019 season, Visakha drew Crown’s ire after snatching up a number of highly-rated Crown youth players. Incensed Crown formally complained to the Football Federation of Cambodia and were awarded compensation as well as sparked changes to the treatment of youth player transfers between C-League clubs.
After a disappointing defeat in their 2019 league opener, a 3-2 defeat to Boeung Ket, Leonardo Vitorino’s Crown duly bounced back to register a win over Bati Youth in their last league clash. Meanwhile, Hok Sochivorn’s Visakha defeated Kirivong Sok Sen Chey 2-0 in their last league game and currently sit fourth in the league table.
Six-time champs Crown were however dealt a huge blow to their league chances after it was revealed that striker Darlan Martins has left Cambodia after picking up a serious shoulder injury.
The 25-year-old, who joined Crown last December, decided against continuing his rehabilitation in Phnom Penh and chose instead to return to his native Brazil.
Other Sunday fixtures see Boeung Ket attempt to bounce back from defeat as they meet Angkor Tiger. NagaWorld will face National Police while Kirivong Sok Sen Chey will face Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng.
In tomorrow’s games, Asia Euro United begin proceedings by hosting Soltilo Angkor. National Defense Ministry will look to build on their confidence-boosting win over Naga last weekend with an evening tie against Kampong Cham province, while Electricite du Cambodge meet Bati Youth.
