For something quite different, and a bit out of town, at Wat Preah Theat in Takeo, the sixth annual Bonn Phum (literally ‘village festival’) is an on-going attempt to reinvigorate the traditional pre-New Year village festivals, with traditional arts, dance, food and music – particularly the New Year games, shadow puppetry, royal ballet and chapey dong veng. How to get there? Transportation support this year comes from Phnom Penh Citybus, Grab and Bookmebus. The event runs all day from Friday to Sunday.

Elsewhere, the Hensley Jazz Duo delights at Farm to Table, Antonio Elchico is at Botanico, Randy Cataluna at LF Garden, The Boxchords are at Alchemy, the Bodleian hosts Philippe Javelle, Intan Andriana, Clay George and Andy Potter on a journey through the fifties and sixties, Bassac Lane has a Hawaiian theme night with Joe & the Jumping Jacks with special guests, Hard Rock Café is holding a Bruno Mars versus Lady Gaga tribute, Hypnotic Fist Technique melts down the FCC Mansion, and Sinville Roadshow is at Oscar’s on the Corner. And if you like it especially loud, Reign in Slumber and Sliten6ix both launch EPs, with support from Doch Chkae and Silent, at Cloud.

Saturday as usual is a little sparser, with Robin Narciso at LF Garden, Pavel zargz Ramirez at Botanico, Antonio and the Experiments at Alchemy, the Uncomfortably White Brothers taking down Tacos Kokopelli, and the funk/soul of Pocket Change at Oscar’s on the Corner.
