Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday sentenced a man to five years in prison, with a fine of about $5,000, after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old garment factory worker.
Judge Ouk Sovannarith identified the man as 41-year-old car washer Choch Try, who lived in Meanchey district.
Judge Sovannarith said Mr Try was arrested in August last year at his home in Tumno commune before he was charged with rape.
Judge Sovannarith said Mr Try persuaded the victim to watch TV with him while his wife and children were not home.
“The victim entered Mr Try’s house and he closed the door,” he said. “He held her and forced himself on her.”
“After the rape, he threatened the victim that if she told any one, she would be killed,” Judge Sovannarith added.
The victim did not tell her parents about the crime. However, her mother became worried because the victim did not come out of her room.
Upon questioning her daughter, the victim then finally told her about what happened with Mr Try.
After the arrest, Mr Try admitted to committing the offence. He said that he loved the victim and wanted to have sex with her.
“She was a pretty girl. I loved her. I wanted to have sex with her,” Mr Try said.
