Former opposition lawmaker Riel Khemarin has filed a request to Interior Ministry Sar Kheng to have his political ban lifted.

In the letter dated on Thursday, Mr Khemarin asked Mr Kheng to intervene and to have his political ban lifted, noting that he plans to form a new political party upon his return from abroad.

“Please examine and make a request to grant me political rehabilitation because I have a plan to form a new political party to contest the upcoming commune election in 2022,” he said.

. .

Mr Khemarin was one of 118 CNRP politicians banned from politics for five years by the Supreme Court in November 2017 as it dissolved the party.

So far, three former CNRP members, including Kong Korm, his son’s Kong Bora and Sim Sovanny had their political rights restored after making requests to Mr Kheng and Prime Minister Hun Sen.
