Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged two men who allegedly trafficked more than two kilograms of crystal meth in Chamkar Mon district.

A court document identified as them as Taing Hong, 27, and Seng Vanno, 27, both jobless. They were arrested by Interior Ministry anti-drug trafficking police on Sunday.

The document said both were charged with drug trafficking. They face life in prison if convicted.

Major Meas Piseth, an anti-drug police officer who arrested the two accused and brought them to court, yesterday said they were drug distributors who transported drugs for sale to users in casinos, karaoke shops and bars in the capital.

He said that at about 9.30 pm on Sunday, Mr Hong and Mr Vanno travelled on a motorbike to sell drugs to users in the district’s Tonle Basac commune.

Maj Piseth said that while they were passing a checkpoint, police became suspicious and flagged them down. He said the accused tried to flee but police surrounded them.

“When they saw our police officers, they tried to flee from the place,” Maj Piseth said. “Our officers then surrounded them and arrested them.”

He said that police found two big packages of crystal meth weighing 2.02 kilograms, a small package of ecstasy weighing 0.26 grams and a package of cocaine weighing 0.9 grams under the motorbike saddle.

Maj Piseth added that both accused are now in prison pending trial
