Kandal Provincial Court yesterday charged a 15-year-old boy over the rape of a five-year-old girl in Khsarch Kandal district.
Major Bun Yong, district deputy police chief, identified the accused as Thy Meng Chy, living in Ta Ek commune’s Tram Loeu village.
He said that the accused was charged with rape with aggravating circumstances and faces up to seven years in jail if convicted. He was arrested on Monday. Maj Yong noted that that the accused and victim lived in the same village.
He said that at about 10 am on Monday, the accused persuaded the victim, who was playing alone in front of her house, to accompany him to watch a cock fight at a mango farm.
The victim agreed and rode a bicycle behind the accused’s motorbike. Maj Yong noted that when they arrived at a quite spot, the accused caught the child and raped her.
“According to the victim the accused first touched her private parts,” he said. “After that he raped her.”
Maj Yong said that after the rape, the accused threatened to kill the victim if she told her parents or anyone else about the rape.
He said that after arriving home the victim, who was bleeding, informed her mother who filed a complaint at the commune police post.
Maj Yong added that police arrested the accused at about 2pm on Monday.
According to the police report, the accused told police during interrogation that he raped the child after he had watched a sex video clip on a friend’s mobile phone.
