Interior Ministry anti-drug trafficking police on Sunday arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized nearly one kilogram of crystal meth from him in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district.
Major Sok Sarith, Police Officer, an anti-drug trafficking police officer, identified the suspect as Phum Kakada, 28, living in Meanchey district’s Stung Meanchey commune.
Maj Sarith said that the suspect was arrested at about 5 pm on Sunday after he sold a big package of crystal meth to an undercover police officer who posed as a drug dealer.
“He was a drug trafficker who transported drugs from the Cambodian-Laos border in Stung Treng province to distribute to users in Phnom Penh,” he said. “He was arrested after he brought the drugs and sold it to our undercover officer in the district’s Prek Eng commune.”
Maj Sarith noted that the undercover officer had negotiated with Mr Kakada for two months before he agreed to deliver the drugs.
He added that police prepared a plot to purchase the drugs and arrest the suspect.
Maj Sarith said that after his arrest, police seized a big package of crystal methamphetamine weighing nearly 1 kilogram, two motorbikes and a phone from Mr Kakada.
He added that the suspect is still being questioned at the ministry and will be sent to the municipal court today.
