A late winner from Rabiul Hasan saw visiting Bangladesh triumph in their international friendly clash against hosts Cambodia on Saturday evening.
The youngster scored the only goal of the game in the 84th minute – his smart finish claiming a morale-boosting victory on the road for the men in green.
A young Cambodian-side came closest midway through the first half as Chhong Bunnath’s corner kick sailed inches over the target.
Despite their failure to win, Cambodia coach Felix Dalmas said the players showed heart and strength in front of a rousing home crowd.
“Thanks to the fans who came to encourage us, even though we did not get the result. I really happy to see the effort of the players. We will try hard for the AFC U-23 which is coming soon,” said the Argentinian.
Bangladesh are currently in 192nd position in the latest FIFA rankings. Cambodia sit 172nd.
The match proved vital as the nation prepares to host Group H matches of the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers here between March 22 and 26. Cambodia find themselves alongside Australia, Korea Republic and Chinese Taipei.
