Event Spotlight: HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens

Lineout, everyone, it’s time for real thrill and action on the pitch as Singapore hosts yet another momentous and adrenaline-filled HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens!

Rugby Sevens is played on a full-size pitch by teams of seven players. With fewer players and shorter games compared to the traditional 15’s, the on-pitch battles are fast and furious, and surely exciting for both players and fans from April 13 to 14.

Two days of 45 intense matches will test the endurance of 16 top rugby teams from around the world, all aiming to take home the trophy.

Singapore is the only Southeast Asian nation to host 1 of the 10 legs of the World Rugby Sevens, and the great thing about the Lion City’s edition is the off-pitch entertainment and delights that will surely capture not just the hearts of rugby fans but of children and families as well.

For example, visitors can mingle with rugby legends at the fringe festivals and attend sport clinics by national team coaches.

Singapore Sports Hub will also be featuring entertainment acts such as ‘90s rock band Smash Mouth and the band from the original cast of Broadway’s Rock of Ages. Then there’s the Splash Party where everyone can take the time to cool off, relax and enjoy live performances from renowned local artists and other roaming entertainment.

After the matches, at night, you can check out the range of parties at Clarke Quay and other party venues, where a range of music genres and cuisines are on offer.

If you’re worried about your kids – well, there’s no reason to be. There will be meet-and-greet sessions with characters from “Shrek” and “Kung Fu Panda”, along with a host of interactive experiences and all-day TV screenings by Dreamworks. There will also be an interactive experience with Princess Poppy and Branch from the Trolls. Moreover, a Festival Village will be set up for face painting, fairground games, photo booths, stage performances that you and your kids will love.
