Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday tried a former construction worker who posted photo-shopped nude photos online and threatened to kill a woman who rejected his romantic overtures before blocking him on Facebook.

Judge Top Chhunheng identified the accused as Dorn Deth, 29, living in Battambang province’s Kamrieng district.

He said Mr Deth was charged with issuing a death threat and also with posting pornography. He was arrested on November 21 last year by police from the Interior Ministry’s Anti-Cyber Crime Department.

Judge Chhunheng noted that in 2016, the accused, who was then working in Thailand, contacted the victim Yin Samphors, 39, via Facebook.

He said that after chatting with each other over Facebook messenger, Mr Deth asked Ms Samphors to become his lover, but she declined, saying that she was married and had three children.

Judge Chhunheng said the victim later blocked the accused from her Facebook account and he became angry.

He said Mr Deth then created a fake account and added Ms Samphors as a new friend.

Judge Chhunheng said that after the victim accepted the accused as a friend, he threatened to kill her in a messenger post.

“Besides threatening to kill the victim, the accused photo-shopped and merged the victim’s face with the nude body of a Korean girl and sent the photos and also edited sex clips to Ms Samphors’s Facebook account,” he said. “He also sent copies to the victim’s Facebook friends.”

Ms Samphors told the court yesterday that after the accused publicly posted the fake nude photos and sex clips her husband left her and their three children because he was angry with her and accused her of committing adultery.

“To find justice, I would like to ask the court to strongly punish him according to the laws so that he will not do this to other women in future,” she said. “I demand $100,000 in compensation from him.”

Mr Deth admitted committing the offence yesterday. He told the court that the reason why he threatened to kill the victim and humiliated her was because he was angry with her for blocking him on Facebook and rejecting him.

“I accept my fault but I would like to ask the court to give me a light sentence,” he said.

A verdict is due March 18.
