With the help of Vietnamese authorities, the Svay Rieng provincial anti-drug police, yesterday confiscated two kilograms of methamphetamine allegedly belonging to a suspected drug trafficker.
Vietnamese authorities had asked Cambodian police to search the home of 28-year-old Vietnamese national Feng Tang Ngoc in Chantrea district’s Samroang commune, after she was arrested in Vietnam over about four kilograms of methamphetamine.
“After we inspected the house, we found two kilograms of methamphetamine,” Col Sen said, noting that the suspect was brought in from Vietnam. “The suspect was initially arrested in Vietnam along the border. Vietnamese authorities have taken her back.”
Last month, the National Authority for Combatting Drugs issued a year-end report that showed a 12.5 percent increase in the amount of drugs seized by police.
It said police confiscated 533 kilograms of drugs last year, up from 296 kilograms in 2017.
General Mok Chito, deputy chief of the National Police, said drugs flow into the Kingdom via northeastern borders.
“Methamphetamine flows from Laos and into our provinces,” Gen Chito said.
