Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the Kingdom is projected to have a population of about 20 million by 2030 with a growth of 1 percent to 1.5 percent per year and that most of them will be moving to settle in urban areas.
Speaking during the 7th National Clean Day 2019 under the theme “Clean City, City Feels the Warmth” in Phnom Penh on Monday, Mr Hun Sen said that the Kingdom’s population will be likely to reach 20 million by 2030 and will reach 25 million by 2050.
“Cambodia’s economic growth with improved living standards result in demographic transition. Most of Cambodian people will be moving to live in urban areas,” Mr Hun Sen said.
Cambodia now has about 16 million people with 1.5 million living in Phnom Penh. The government is set to conduct its third nationwide census from March 3 to March 13.
