Drug dealer killed over rip-off

A 32-year-old drug user was charged yesterday with killing a man after being cheated in a drug deal.

The incident took place at about 7.30pm on Wednesday in Village 1 in Preah Sihanouk province’s Sihanoukville.

Brigadier General Kol Phally, chief of the provincial general crimes department, said the accused was Sok Oudom, 32, unemployed, who lived in village I.

Brig Gen Phally said Mr Oudom was charged with intentional murder. He was arrested on Friday and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted.

Mr Oudom has been sent to prison pending a trial.

Brig Gen Phally declined to give details about the case.

Sihanoukville penal police officer Captain Bun Suon said the accused confessed when questioned at the police station on the day of the murder.

According to the confession, the accused bought a small package of crystal meth for about $9 from the victim.

Cap Suon said that after buying the drug, the accused took it to use at his home, but on checking he found the substance was white alum.

The accused became very angry at the seller. He drove on his motorbike to meet the seller, who often stayed in village II in commune II, to beat him.

“He confessed that he stabbed the victim because he was angry with him for cheating him and selling him the white alum,” Cap Suon said.

“In revenge, he stabbed him many times with a wood file in the stomach to warn him, but he did not have any intention to kill the victim,” he added. “After stabbing the victim, the accused fled to hide in his home.”

Capt Suon said the accused was arrested at about 5pm at on Friday at his home, based on evidence from a witness who was a close friend of the victim.

The witness knew the accused and had seen him on the night of the murder.

The witness had given testimony to police and cooperated with police to arrest the accused.
