PHNOM PENH, (Khmer Times)— The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia hosted an event on Friday, to celebrate Chinese People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) day. The event was presided over by the Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, General Moeung Samphan and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo.

The event is traditionally celebrated on August 1st to commemorate the establishment of the military wing of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1927.

Three hundred Chinese nationals and military officers participated in the ceremony as well as foreign military attaches.

The modern CPLA consists of four professional service branches: the People’s Liberation Army Ground Force; the People’s Liberation Army Navy; the People’s Liberation Army Air Force and the Second Artillery Corps.

The CPLA is considered to be the world’s largest military force, with a strength of approximately

2,285,000 personnel, which equates to about 0.18 percent of China’s population.

Military attaché with the Chinese Embassy, Mr Wang Ximao, said “ The CPLA has created and fostered friendship, relations and cooperation with countries in the world and actively contributed to maintaining regional and global peace – and for Cambodia, the friendly ties between  our military and Cambodia’s army have regularly been strengthened and expanded.”
