Police in Kratie province yesterday arrested a man suspected of bludgeoning his granduncle to death with a piece of wood in Snuol district last week.
The victim was found dead in a forest in the district on Saturday. Police said the victim frequented the forest in order to hunt for wild animals.
Colonel Chan Sok Kim, chief of district police, said Rum Ren, grandnephew of the victim, was suspected of being the killer.
“The suspect attacked the victim, who is the suspect’s father’s uncle,” Col Sok Kim said.
He said that a week ago, the suspect brought the victim into the forest to go hunting for wild animals, noting that the suspect knew the victim had a lot of money.
The suspect then killed the victim with the piece of wood, robbed him and left his body in the forest, Col Sok Kim added.
“After we found the corpse, police officers began an investigation,” he said. “We then arrested the suspect.”
Col Sok Kim said the suspect is currently detained by district police and will today be sent to the provincial police headquarters before he is questioned by a provincial court judge.
Major General Lun Sophath, chief of provincial police, declined to comment yesterday.
