Kampong Speu Provincial Court yesterday charged three men who allegedly destroyed property at a karaoke club after threatening to kill the owner over their unpaid bill in Oral district on Friday.

Major Keo Sambath, a Provincial General Crimes Department police officer, identified them as Tha Thai, 23, Yorn Metta, 23, and Long Veth, 30, all construction workers living in the province.

He said they were charged with intentionally causing damage and face up to two years in jail each if convicted.

Maj Sambath identified the victim as Nhib Sodom, 33, the owner of Reaksmey Oral Karaoke Shop in the district’s Hong Samon commune.

He said that at about 10.30pm on Friday, the three accused entered the club to drink beer and sing.

Maj Sambath said that at about 2am on Saturday after becoming drunk, the three men told Mr Sodom to bring the bill.

He noted that when the victim brought the bill amounting to about $105, the accused did not have enough money to pay.

“They did not have enough money to pay for the drinks, meals and singing session,” Maj Sambath said. “They pretended to have an argument with each other and tried to flee from the shop.”

“When Mr Sodom stopped them, they threatened to beat and kill him before fetching a cleaver from their motorbike and hacking and smashing desks, tables, mattresses and glasses in the club,” he added.

Maj Sambath said that the victim called police, who then arrested the accused at about 2.30am on Saturday.

He added that after their arrests, police seized a motorbike and a cleaver from them.
