Brigadier General Prum Sonthor, deputy Phnom Penh Police Chief, became Prey Veng provincial police chief on Friday, replacing Major General Sreng Chea who retired.
The transferring ceremony took place on Friday and was presided over by National Police Chief General Neth Savoeun and Prey Veng provincial governor Chea Somethy at the provincial police headquarters.
Brig Gen Sonthor said on Sunday that he was working as a police officer at the Ministry of Interior since 2003 and became a deputy Phnom Penh police chief in recent years.
“I worked as a police officer at the Interior Ministry since 2003 or 2004,” Brig Gen Sonthor said and then declined to comment further.
Brig Gen Sonthor is a son of Prum Sokha, a secretary of state at the Ministry of Public Service.
Maj Gen Chea could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
