Container fee to fall

The fee for inspection of export and import containers via scanning system per container will be reduced as of April 1.  This was announced in an official letter, dated Jan. 29, to the Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.

The aforementioned letter (Number 568) was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Aun Pornmoniroth.

It declares that said fee will drop from $32 (128,000 riel) to $16 for containers over 40 feet (12 metres), and from $20 (80.000 riel) to $10 for containers under 40 feet.

The Finance Minister letter wrote:  “I would like to inform … the Royal Government that … [this measure will] improve trade facilitation, strengthen the competitiveness of Cambodia, help support the garment industry, and reduce the burden of business people in exporting and importing goods loaded in containers.

“This reduction of the fee on inspection by scanner per container unit will take effect from 01, April 2019 until there is a new instruction.  In this regard, please, H.E Delegate of the Royal Government, disseminate and implement it in a highly effective manner.”
