Phnom Penh Crown will face perhaps the toughest test of their pre-season tour yet as they face Thailand’s Buriram United this afternoon at Khao Kradong Stadium in Buriram, Thailand.

The six-time Cambodian League champion, helmed by former Cambodian National Team manager Leonardo Vitorino, have been training in Thailand after elimination from the Leo Pre-Season Cup in which they lost out to Nakhon Ratchasima FC 4-0.

However, a 3-2 victory over Thai Army Region 2 on Monday was secured thanks to goals by Yeu Muslim, Pov Ponvuthy, and new Brazilian signing Darlan.

Vitorino has stated he was committed to resurrecting a club which had declined under Englishman Sean Sainsbury.

Under Sainsbury, the six-time champions fell behind to their traditional rivals. Crown spent much of last season scrapping against their mid-table rivals. Calls for Sainsbury’s head came early in his appointment and with increasingly poor performances made his position at the club untenable.

Vitorino was announced last October and said during his unveiling; “I want to win the league. 100 percent! I know it will be a big challenge. You need to prove how good you are when you get a big challenge like this.”
