HERAT (Xinhua) – Government forces after seven days of fierce fighting have casptured and destroyed the command and control center of the Taliban outfit in Afghanistan’s western Herat province, provincial governor Jilani Farhad said Tuesday.

“They were able to capture and destroy the command and control center of Taliban for Herat in Pashtun Zarghon district on Monday,” Mr Farhad told Xinhua.

It was a counter attack following the Afghan Taliban offensive on an Afghan military compound in central Maidan Shar, which killed about 100 Afghan forces.

Mr Farhad said during the operation, a Taliban detention center was also discovered and destroyed, he said, but did not provide more details.

Taliban militants are yet to make comment.
