Since its inception, Khmer Times has been at the forefront of embracing technology. We endeavour to make it easier for our readers, whether in Cambodia or overseas, to get access to breaking news coverage from the kingdom. We have constantly evolved, from continually refashioning our website, creating new applications to deliver our content, and providing our daily email digests. And now we’re introducing the ‘Chatbot’.

With the increasing uptake of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as the growth of an Internet of Things ecosystem, technology has – for most – made life easier.

Last year, Google debuted a new feature of its Google Assistant – part of its Duplex AI system – which can book a reservation through the phone and by imitating human speech. The human on the other end of the line could not have suspected otherwise.

Need your milk topping up in the refrigerator? Let your smart refrigerator order you more when it’s running low. Need to find out the distance between Sydney and London? Ask Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri to track down the answer to the nearest metre.

AI-equipped applications can recognise whether that’s Deborah or Sarah in your picture, can keep your email inbox spam-free, and stifle credit card fraudsters.

While, the mass rollout of such a system is still beyond most, a Chatbot can offer users a convenient way of interacting with websites and applications without the need of a human intermediary.

Chatbots were built to save time. Gartner, a leading information technology research and advisory company, predicts that over 85 percent of customer interactions will be handled without a human by 2020.

Khmer Times understands this well and that is why we are pleased to present to our readers our newest offering – the Khmer Times Chatbot.

Accessible through Facebook, Khmer Times’ Chatbot will allow readers to be notified through breaking news alerts, as well as access our trove of articles. We will be keeping the Chatbot updated and will continue to roll out new features and services as and when they become available.
