Police in Russey Keo district yesterday arrested 17 people over drug use and trafficking in the capital.
Captain Sok Wathana, a district police officer, said the 17 suspects were drug users and distributors, noting they were arrested at about 11am after police raided an online gambling shop located in Tuol Sangke I commune.
Cap Wathana noted that police knew of their hiding place after neighbours, alerted police to their drug activities.
“They all did not have any real jobs,” he said. “They were arrested red-handed while smoking drugs.”
He noted that after their arrests, police seized 17 packages of crystal meth weighing nearly 100 grams, one drug scale, one gun, ten phones and four motorbikes.
He added that all the suspects tested positive for drug use.
Colonel Kol Yi, district police chief, said the group remains detained at the district police station for questioning.
“Police will question them,” he said. “They are accused of drug use and trafficking.”
Col Yi added that they will be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court today.
